Looking back at two days dedicated to institutional liberalism
ON MARCH 12-13 2015, INTRPOL HAD THE PLEASURE to HOST a seminar and a conference WITH PROFESSOR Robert O. KEohane (princeton university) at the campus in ODense. IT was two interesting days in the company of one of the world's leading scholars of international relations .
In the mid 90’s, a well-known theoretical debate took place in academic articles between Professor John Mearsheimer on the one hand and on the other hand the co-authors Professor Robert Keohane & Lisa Martin. It was a discussion about whether or not international institutions are capable of altering the strategic calculations of states and preventing the outbreaks of wars.
This debate has undoubtedly been part of many university students’ introduction to international relations and something which they associate the three professors with. In 2011, IntRpol managed to get the first party of the debate to Odense. Professor John J. Mearsheimer participated in our conference about “The Relevance of Realism in the 21st Century “. In the following years we had an ambition of doing something similar again. This finally happened in 2014 when we got an agreement with the second party of the debate professor Robert O. Keohane.
On the 12-13 March, 2015, the renowned professor came to Odense to give a seminar on “Contested Multilateralism” and on “American Leadership and Multilateral Institutions in a Post-Hegemonic World”. It was two events with high-level theoretical discussions and interesting debates with challenging questions to the keynote speaker.
