ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019
ISRAEL-PALESTINE ANNO 2019: WAR CRIMES OR SELF-DEFENSE?

IntRpol's Annual Conference 2019 covered one of recent times most complex conflicts, the Israel/Palestine-conflict, and featured a presentation by the renowned political scientist Norman Finkelstein.

The Israel/Palestine-conflict is one of the longest running conflicts in recent times, and our conference tries to answer a range of questions relating to the conflict. Are the Israelis merely defending themselves, or are they pursing occupationist policies? What solutions are available, what are the consequences of these solutions, and what happens if no solution is reached? Who is responsible for solving the conflict? Are we seeing war crimes unfolding in real time, or is the military action justified by arguments of self-defense?
We are proud to announce that the renowned american political scientist, activist, professor and author Norman Finkelstein will be key note speaker at the conference! He is famous for his (for some) controversial stances on the Israel/Palestine-conflict, and his book "The Holocaust Industry", which presents a heavy critique of the Israel-lobby's strategic exploitation of the holocaust to further their own interests. His most recent book, "Gaza: An Inquest Into Its Martyrdom", presents a meticulously researched inquest into Gaza’s martyrdom. He argues that although Israel has justified its assaults in the name of self-defense, in fact these actions constituted flagrant violations of international law. At a debate at University of Waterloo, he exclaimed: "I don't like to play the Holocaust card. But since now I feel compelled to: my late father was in Auswitch. My late mother was in Majdanek concentration camp. Every single member of my family on both sides was exterminated. Both of my parents were in the Warsaw ghetto uprising. And it is precisely and exactly because of the lessons my parents taught me and my two siblings, that I will not be silent when Israel commits it's crimes against the Palestinians"

Besides a key note speech by Norman Finkelstein, our conference will host a hand-picked panel consisting of politicians, scientists and journalists. Jonathan Møller Sousa, managing director at Israel Dialogue Forum and former deputy-leader of the Danish Zionist Union, will guest the panel, and we can almost guarantee that an explosive debate will follow. Sousa has famously argued that Israels military violence is justified on the ground that Israel needs to protect its citizens against terror, extermination, and genocide by the Hamaz. He has also berated Denmark for its bad treatment of Israel, as Denmark has refused to acknowledge Jerusalem as the true Capital of Israel.

Danish journalist Marcus Rubin will moderate the debate. Rubin is trained jurist, and currently works as a feature article editor with Politikken. He has formerly worked as a Middle East and USA-correspondent, and has lived in New York, Jerusalem and Beirut. In 2017 he interviewed Finkelstein at an event in Copenhagen. He has written quite a few pieces on Israel-Palestine, and will no doubt be a great moderator.

We are also happy to announce that Lars Erslev Andersen, senior researcher with the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), will be joining the debat.e Lars Erslev Andersen researches on topics such as terrorism and the Middle East, and has written extensively on topics ranging from the US Afghan-policies to Palestinian refugees. In 2017 he wrote an article for POV, written as an "obituary" on the Oslo Accord, claiming that the Palestinians have lost faith in their own leaders and their future.
Our last participant in the panel discission will be Yonatan Goldshtein. Yonatan Goldshtein is a Ph.D-student at the University of Aarhus. He is of Jewish-Israelian decent and has voulenteered as a peace activist in Palestine, and lived in the West Bank for a semester, giving him a unique perspective on the conflict from both the Israeli and the Palestinian viewpoint. Goldshtein is a public speaker on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and has written several oped’s for danish newspapers, as well as participated in several TVand radio-debates.
